Israeli forces demolish 3 homes, cultural center in village of Umm al-Kheir

http://www.maannews.com/Content.aspx?ID=772828

Israeli bulldozers Wednesday demolished three Palestinian homes and a cultural center in the village of Umm al-Kheir in the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron, detaining an elderly disabled man in the process. The coordinator of popular committees in southern Hebron, Rateb al-Jbour, told Ma’an that Israeli forces raided the village and demolished three homes, two of which belonged to Shuiab al-Hathalin, a disabled elderly man, while the third belonged to Suleiman al-Hathalin. Shuiab al-Hathalin was detained by Israeli forces following the demolition of his two homes. Israeli forces also demolished a cultural center in the village.

According to al-Jbrour, Israeli forces had demolished several homes in the village during the past two weeks, claiming the properties were unlicensed. The village is located in Area C -- the 60 percent of the West Bank under full Israeli military jurisdiction -- where it is nearly impossible for Palestinians to obtain building permits. A spokesperson for COGAT, the Israeli agency responsible for implementing Israeli policies in the occupied territory, told Ma'an that the demolitions were carried out on "three illegal buildings" established without proper permits, and added that Israeli authorities had sent demolition notices to the owners prior to carrying out the demolitions.

Israel rarely grants Palestinians permits to build in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, forcing most Palestinians to build illegally. However the 550,000 Jewish settlers residing in illegal Israeli settlements scattered across Palestinian territory are more easily given building permits and allowed to expand their homes and properties. Since the start of 2016, at least 738 Palestinian-owned structures have been demolished by Israeli forces, leaving at least 1,042 Palestinians displaced, according to UN documentation

Yemeni Army, Popular Forces Seize US-Made Arms in Ma'rib, Continue to Advance in Najran

http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950605000419

The Yemeni army and popular forces discovered an arms depot of pro-Saudi forces in Ma'rib province which contained weapons and ammunition made in the US as Ansarullah fighters continued to gain more military grounds in the kingdom's Najran and Jizan provinces. The Yemeni forces seized a weapons depot of the Saudi-led forces in Ma'rib province which was packed with the US-made arms and dispatched from Saudi Arabia to the Yemeni province. The Yemeni army and Ansarullah fighters also seized the military positions of the Saudi army in Najran province. Score of pro-Saudi forces were killed and wounded in fierce clashes with the Yemeni army and Ansarullah fighters in the region.

On Wednesday, the Yemeni army and popular forces repelled an attack by the forces loyal to the former fugitive President Mansour Hadi on their military positions in the Western part of Ta'iz province, inflicting heavy losses on them in a counteroffensive. The pro-Hadi militias attacked the Yemeni military positions in Zobab region in Western Ta'iz, but they were pushed back by the army and popular forces. Several militias were killed and wounded in the Yemeni forces' counteroffensive. The Yemeni forces also destroyed several armored and military vehicles of the Saudi forces in the army counter-offensive.

Also on Wednesday, the Yemeni army continued its advances against the Saudi-led forces in the Southern parts of the kingdom, battlefield commanders disclosed, adding that more lands in Jizan and Najran provinces have been seized in recent days. "Yemen's special forces backed by tribal forces have taken full control of the all Saudi military positions in Najran's border region," Senior Ansarullah Commander Ali al-Hamzdani told FNA. He reiterated that the Saudi forces fled their military positions as the Yemeni forces continued their advances in Najran and Jizan provinces. "Fierce clashes are currently underway between Yemeni and Saudi forces in Assir and Jizan provinces," al-Hamzdani added.

On Tuesday, the Yemeni army and popular forces hit a strategic military base of the Saudi-led forces in Ma'rib province with their ballistic missile, inflicting heavy losses on them. Al-Falaj military base located in Ma'rib province in Western Yemen was hit by Yemen's Zalzal 3 missile. Early reports indicated large casualties on the pro-Saudi forces in the missile attack. The Saudi army and its coalition members have lost, at least, over a hundred troops each time they have come under a ballistic missile attack by Yemen. The Yemeni attack came in retaliation for Saudi Arabia's continued violation of ceasefire across Yemen, killing a large number of civilians.

Also last week, a Qaher-I ballistic missile hit Saudi Arabia's Khamis Mushait military base, destroying their military hardware and equipment. The Saudi-led forces' armored vehicles were destroyed during the Yemeni missile attack. Also in mid-August, the Yemeni army missiles pounded the Saudi troops' military positions in the kingdom's Southwestern provinces, while Ansarullah fighters fended off the Saudi forces' attacks in border regions in Northern Yemen. "The Saudi military centers in Najran and Jizan provinces came under the Yemeni army's missile attacks today," Ansarullah Commander Abdullah al-Zeidi told FNA. He also noted that the Yemeni forces repelled the Saudi army attacks on their military positions in border areas near Jizan and Najran provinces, and said, "The Yemeni army and popular forces fired tens of mortar rounds at al-Tala'a and al-Shabaka military sites in the Southern parts of Saudi Arabia." Al-Zeidi also said that Saudi Arabia's newly-established site in al-Khoba of Jizan province also came under Yemen's missile attack, killing and wounding several Saudi troops.

Oil Spikes On Iran Report Saudi Aramco Facilities Hit By Yemen Missiles

POWER RELAY FACILITY SET ON FIRE BY PROJECTILE FIRED FROM YEMEN TOWARDS SOUTHERN SAUDI ARABIAN CITY OF NAJRAN- SAUDI STATE NEWS AGENCY While oil is spiking thanks to the dollar's kneejerk reaction lower following Yellen's (not really) hawkish speech, another reason for the move higher appears to be an unconfirmed report by Iran's PressTV that Yemeni forces have fired ballistic missiles at the facilities belonging to the Saudi state oil giant Aramco in the kingdom’s southwest. From the report:

Yemeni forces have fired ballistic missiles at the facilities belonging to the Saudi state oil giant Aramco in the kingdom’s southwest. The retaliatory attack took place on Friday, hitting targets in Saudi Arabia’s Jizan region and causing considerable damage to the Aramco facilities there, Yemen’s al-Masirah television reported. The Saudi military has been pounding Yemen since March last year to undermine Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement and to restore power to the former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh. Nearly 10,000 people, most of them civilians, have been killed in Riyadh’s military aggression which lacks any international mandate.

Saudi Arabia 'Too Arrogant to Accept Defeat' in Yemen

The founder of the UK-based Islamic Human Rights Commission said the Saudis are “too arrogant and don’t want to accept a defeat” they suffered in the war against Yemeni people.

“Riyadh will drag on the war, refusing to negotiate or discuss peace, which is the only intelligent exit strategy left to the House of Saud,” the founder of the UK-based Islamic Human Rights Commission, Massoud Shajareh, said in an interview about Western involvement and possible outcomes of the Yemen war, Sputnik reported.

Framing the violence in Yemen as a proxy war involving Iran is flat-out wrong, in the words of Shajareh, who was interviewed by Brian Becker on Radio Sputnik’s Loud & Clear program.

Iran, accused by the Saudis of supporting the political opposition faction throughout the war, hasn’t got any influence on conflict in Yemen, he said.

“There’s a total blockade of sea, and Iranian weapons cannot get through, personnel cannot get through. Iran has no air forces involved,” Shajareh noted, offering that the real driving force of the hostilities in Yemen is Saudi Arabia that has been shelling the country since March 2015.

To justify its attempted invasion, the Saudis used the pretext of spreading democracy, which is patently absurd, given that Saudi Arabia is a monarchy, and it practices executions and widely oppresses women, Shajareh said.

Riyadh “wants to be a regional power” and has instigated a number of conflicts, including those in Bahrain, Syria and Yemen, he said.

“They want to strengthen themselves so as to ensure the continuation of the royal family’s dictatorship.”

The Saudi’s real goal in sending troops Yemen, he said, is to place a puppet president in power who will obey Riyadh.

“Here we’ve got one of the richest countries in the region, or in the world, attacking one of the poorest countries, destroying infrastructure and killing children,” he said, speaking of the ongoing Saudi bombing campaign, known to be using US-manufactured weapons.

The Hypocrisy of the West's Alliance With Saudi Arabia The war has not only killed nearly 10,000 people and left the country in ruins, but has also given a “kiss of life” to a branch of al Qaeda now planted in Yemen, he added. Concurrently, “the international community, that is supposed to be the peak of democracy and justice, is involved in it,” Shajareh stated.

Citing an Oxfam report, he observed that the UK is also actively supplying Riyadh with arms and ammunition, which are being liberally used against civilians. “Saudi Arabia couldn’t possibly get engaged in this sort of war without such support,” he said. Riyadh made it clear that its airstrikes, targeting hospitals and schools, are overlooked by the West, Shajareh pointed out, citing the Saudi Foreign Minister’s claim that US and UK commanders have access to the list of Saudi airstrike targets.

“The reality is that not only is Saudi Arabia committing war crimes, but also those who make it possible,” he added, referring to logistical assistance and weapons supplied by Washington and London. Among the reasons prompting Americans and Britons to turn a blind eye to the “carnage and international law violations” currently being committed in Yemen by the Saudis is the aggressive sale of weapons by the West, weapons specifically provided for the use of Riyadh against the opposition.

Pentagon Withdraws Air Support to Saudi Forces in Yemen as Civilian Deaths Mount “There are no economic reasons, other than the sale of arms. There’s no oil, geopolitical interest for the US or the UK there. So it really goes back to old-fashioned corruption.” In spite of the far-reaching support of the Western allies, the Saudis are stuck in a quagmire similar to that being experienced by the US in Afghanistan.

The Ansarullah faction, disorganized at the beginning of the war, have become a “fighting machine, manufacturing weapons and being able to sustain themselves, despite all the blockades that had been imposed.”

The Saudis, in their wealth and Western friendships, are “too arrogant and don’t want to accept a defeat” that has already happened, he said. “Riyadh will drag on the war, refusing to negotiate or discuss peace, which is the only intelligent exit strategy left to the House of Saud,” Shajareh concluded.

ISIS update 8/26/2016..Operation Euphrates Shield undermines Kurdish hopes for autonomy in Syria

Operation Euphrates Shield Undermines Kurdish Hopes for Autonomy in Syria

‘War inside in Syria cannot be stopped at Turkish border’

Turkish army shells Kurds ‘refusing to retreat’ near Jarablus

https://www.rt.com/news/357236-syria-jarablus-ypg-kurds-shelling

Turkish military have targeted US-backed Kurdish YPG militia with artillery fire south of the Syrian border town of Jarablus on Thursday, Anadolu state agency reported, citing a security source. The units allegedly refused to withdraw from the area despite warnings. The group of YPG fighters were attacked with howitzers at about 6pm local time after they were spotted by Turkish intelligence advancing to Jarablus from the north of Manbij, the report said. Earlier, Washington assured Ankara that the US-backed Kurdish formations have been pulling out forces from the area to the east of the Euphrates River as demanded by Turkey.

While on a visit to Ankara on August 24, US Vice President Joe Biden pledged to withdraw the support of American forces to Kurdish fighters battling terrorists in Syria if they did not comply with Turkey’s request to remain east of the river. "They cannot, will not and under no circumstances get American support if they do not keep that commitment. Period," Biden said at a joint news conference with Turkish PM Binali Yildirim.

Turkey has been conducting Operation Euphrates Shield since Wednesday after its troops entered the borderline territory in the north of Syria with the focus on retaking Jarablus from the Islamic State (IS, ISIS/ISIL) terrorists, which has been occupying it since July 2013. Justifying the incursion, which had not been authorized by the Syrian government, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said it is aimed at stopping frequent cross-border attacks and repelling “terror groups which constantly threaten our country like Daesh [Arabic derogatory name for IS] and the PYD [the Democratic Union Party of Syria]”. Meanwhile, Damascus slammed the offensive as “a blatant violation of sovereignty.” The shelling follows a statement by YPG command saying that Kurdish militia under its control had left Manbij and returned to its bases, turning over the control over the city to the Manbij Military Council, according to Al-Masdar News. On Wednesday, the YPG denounced the Turkish military offensive in Syria as “a hostile intervention,” refusing to cave in to pressure coming from Turkey. “We won’t listen to the demands of Turkey or powers outside of Turkey. Turkey cannot impose its own agenda, its own interests on us. Our forces are there. We will not withdraw from west of the Euphrates,” YPG spokesman Redur Xelil said, as cited by Rudaw.

IS Fight in Jarablus Frays Tensions between Turks, Kurds

Euphrates Shield - Day 3 - Colonel Cassad

On the third day of the operation, "the Euphrates Shield" continued increase tension on the contact line of pro-Turkish militants supported by Turkish troops and the troops of YPG / SDF.

1. In the course of the day continued airstrikes Turkish F-16 forward positions of the Kurds and the Turkish armored support troops move forward "green".

2. In fact, now we are seeing the formation of a new front line, where as pull forces should turn quite serious battles, if the Kurds did not completely succumb.

3. In spite of the American demands and messages about leaving manbij, radical part of YPG opposed to satisfy US demands and the war with Turkey. It is very likely that all comes to this option.

4. Caliphate using the clashes between Kurds and Turks, quite painlessly slipped out of a sticky situation and moves in the direction of Al-Bab. It is also worth noting that today manbij bomber blew himself Caliphate.

5. Turkey continues to drive the troops across the border. Already we have got about 80 units of various armored vehicles + several thousand soldiers. The group has already pro-Turkish militants about 3000-3200 people and this is not the limit.

6. Grouping SDF / YPG north of manbij numbers from 3500 to 5500 people. But the Kurds are very few armored vehicles, plus they can not count on the US air support, which of course would not bomb the Turks.

7. Erdogan today called Putin and agreed to meet on 4-5 September to discuss the Syrian affairs. Just today, will meet Chief of General Staff of Turkey and Russia.

8. Turkey has made it clear that he considers the Caliphate and the Kurds of the PYD / YPG terrorists, with whom an agreement will not be. If they do not go to the border, they will be destroyed.

9. The official statement by YPG states that "No one can attack the SDF to the west of the Euphrates and the Kurds are there on their own land." It is not difficult to see the desire of the parties are mutually exclusive, and that guarantees conflict.

10. The United States towards the Kurds are now occupied ostrich position, leaving them virtually alone against the Turks, and is already quite clear that the direct military support for them will not have.

Buses Leaving Daraya, Syria With Evacuees

Tears as evacuation nears for symbol of Syria's revolt

http://www.dailystar.com.lb/News/Middle-East/2016/Aug-26/369042-rebels-civilians-to-evacuate-syrias-daraya-under-deal.ashx

DARAYA, Syria: Thousands of rebels and civilians, many in tears, prepared Friday to evacuate the Syrian town of Daraya after a four-year army siege, in a blow for the beleaguered opposition. The evacuation comes after a deal struck by President Bashar Assad's government and opposition forces in the town, which is close to the capital Damascus and was one of the first to rise up against his government. On Friday morning, ambulances and Syrian Red Crescent vehicles entered the devastated town, which has been surrounded by loyalist troops since 2012 and suffered constant regime bombardment. Inside the town, residents bid farewell to each other, as well as their homes and neighborhoods, a local rebel fighter told AFP. "This is the hardest moment, everyone is crying, young and old," he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The deal to evacuate the town was announced Thursday by Syrian state news agency SANA. "Seven hundred armed men with their personal weapons will leave Daraya to head to the (rebel-controlled) city of Idlib, while thousands of men and women with their families will be taken to reception centers," SANA said. The rebels would have to surrender other armaments to the army. The rebels who have controlled the town belong to two Islamist groups: Ajnad al-Sham and the Martyrs of Islam.

A Syrian source on the ground said Thursday the evacuation could take four days to complete and a military source said the army would enter Daraya. "The civilians will go to regions under regime control around Damascus, rebels will go to Idlib "or sort out their situation with the regime", a rebel official told AFP.
